The Juice Fast

Recently after feeling run down, tired and frustrated with my lack of results with losing weight, I decided to try out a juice fast after watching the movie "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead".  I knew it would not be easy but I was determined to make a change.  Here is a journal of my 8 day adventure.

Day 1 – I am feeling great! I am pumped like, “Yeah! I am going to do this”!  Made it through the day without any temptations distracting me.  It was cucumber, celery, kale and green apple juice for me today!

Day 2 – Still feeling good, a little tired and hungry but nothing like a hangover.  Started off with an apple, carrot, lemon and ginger juice this morning.  Sipped on my green juice all afternoon.  This isn’t so bad.

Day 3 –  I miss chewing food!!  Ugh.  But day 3 of any diet is always the hardest right? Daman is super sweet and supportive.

Day 4 – I made it past day 3, it should be smooth sailing from here on out!  Going to research some new juice recipes.

Is your pee supposed to be this color?  Going to call the doctor just to be sure.

Day 5 – I feel FANTASTIC!  This morning I had apple, carrot, and lemon juice.  Not too bad. I’ve noticed that I have more energy and my brain feels less foggy.  However I am a little nervous because the weekend is here! This is not going to be my usual half a bottle of wine Friday night.  Nope! It’s going to be green juice in my fancy bedazzled wine glass.

Oh! The doctor called me back and I am ok.  No need to be alarmed.

Day 6 – Confession – So I may have taken some form of sleep aid to knock my ass out and keep me out of the wine night.  Either way, I didn’t cheat!

I am feeling pretty good mentally and physically.  I am going to try a new juice recipe today to change things up a little.  Hope it's tasty!

Day 7 – I woke up in disbelief, like I really have almost completed a full week of this!  I am AWESOME!  Unfortunately that attitude quickly disappeared and out came a monster.  Poor Daman, he really was a trooper even though I was cranky, pissed at the world and short on patience.  I sat on the couch all day doing my homework, crabby, irritated and miserable.  Even my cats stayed clear of me.  I just wanted to eat something!  Anything!

Later on Daman was cooking burgers for dinner and they smelled so amazing.  I swear I could taste the juicy cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and ketchup! This is when I started to crack.  I started to consider jumping Daman for his burger!  After playing the scenario out in my head I opted to not go through with it – Probably best for our relationship that I didn’t.

Day 8 – F@*K This!  This is the last day!  I don’t even want to look at juice!  OMG I am so hungry.  Tomorrow morning I am going to start the transition back to food!

I choked down the juice all day with visions of smoothies and salads in my head.  I can’t wait to start eating again. I am never going to eat crappy junk food again!

So was it worth it?
Overall I feel that completing this fast was well worth it.  I feel great, my body feels awesome, my skin looks amazing, my head is clear,J
I lost some weight, and I proved to myself that I could do it.  And I didn’t miss all of those things that I thought I would – even the wine and vodka.

  1. I did a gentle food-based cleanse once. By day 2, my blood sugar dropped so low that I was shaky and sweaty. And then I had some protein so I didn't pass out. I give you credit - that is not easy!

    1. Oh no, that sounds horrible. I can't imagine trying to to do the cleanse feeling like that.
Thank you, it definitely wasn't easy but I was fortunate to have a lot of people supporting me :-)

  3. I would do another fast, in fact I plan on going thru another fast after Thanksgiving. This time it will be shorter and probably more tolerable :-)

These are the things I hate about you, and yes, I'm talking to you!

Any serious gym goer knows that there are certain unspoken rules and etiquette to follow while working out at a gym.   In my many years of experience I have witnessed numerous acts of stupidity along with plain old selfishness.   After a recent visit to the gym I was inspired to share a few of my pet peeves.   I have listed a few below (not all of them, no one needs to know what a crazy lunatic I am) for your reading pleasure.   Pet Peeve #18 So the other night while I was at the gym working out I had to stop myself from marching up to this idiot and give him the “WHAT FOR,” as my friends like to say. This D-bag that felt is necessary to rack the leg press machine with 12 45lb weights, do one set with not even pressing half-way, and then walk away “forgetting” to un-rack the weights.   Like I don’t want to get my work out by cleaning up after you buddy!   I refrained from bitching this guy out (mainly because Daman wasn’t there to back me up), but ...

Cortney "Friendly" Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yesterday was a great day for some relaxing and having some fresh baked cookies!  With my restricted diet I decided to take me first attempt at baking some gluten-free, eggless, and dairy-free cookies.  Oh, come on, they don’t sound that bad…do they?  I picked up a bag of Bob’s Red Mill gluten free all-purpose baking flour and used the cookie recipe on the back of the bag as my recipe guideline.   The recipe is as  follows:  ·        1-1/2 cups  Gluten Free Oat Flour ·        1 cup  GF All Purpose Baking Flour ·        1 cup Organic Sugar ·        1/4 cup  Flaxseed Meal ·        1/4 cup  Arrowroot Starch ·        1-1/2 tsp  Xanthan Gum ·        1 tsp  Baking Soda ·     ...

Pumpkin Time!

It’s that time of year where pumpkin pie is everywhere for Thanksgiving.   Truth be told, I have never cared for pumpkin pie, or any pie for that matter.   I am the type of girl who says, “why have that, when I can have chocolate!” However, last week I tried a slice of raw pumpkin pie and I was in love!   So I have decided to try and make my own raw pumpkin pie for thanksgiving dinner because it is not only delicious, but it is “Cortney friendly.”   My first step in creating this master piece is to create raw pumpkin puree.   Here is how I did it.. First you’re going to need pie pumpkins.   Cut the tops off just like you would when you get your pumpkins ready for Halloween. Next cut the pumpkins in half and clean out all of the seeds.   Once you’ve cleaned your pumpkins you can begin to peel the skin off. Slice up pumpkin and then cut into chunks.   Then place your pumpkin in your food processor and puree!  * I wou...
